Tidy Towns Competition
The Tidy Towns Movement has experienced many changes over more than forty years of its existence. During that time it has helped to transform Ennis and has been a major force for community development. The changes facing the movement have included social, economic and cultural changes, an increase in the urban based population and the growth of tourism. Changes in the criteria over the years and in particular in recent years reflect these social changes and especially increased environmental awareness.
Following on from the Gold Medal received in 2004 and the title of Ireland's Tidiest Large Town, Ennis Town Council continued to work in partnership with the Tidy Towns Committee and Chamber of Commerce and Ennis was awarded Ireland's Tidiest Town in the 2005 competition.
