How can I Apply?
An Application Form may be downloaded or may be obtained from the Housing Section.
Where do I Apply?
Applications forms are available online or from the Housing Department, Ennis Town Council, Waterpark House, Drumbiggle, Ennis, Co. Clare.
What happens when I Apply?
When applications are received and processed, applicants are asked to attend for interview in order to assess their application and get all their relevant information e.g. evidence of income details, children’s birth certificates, evidence of rent payable in present accommodation (if applicable), P.S.N. number of all residents.etc. The way in which the housing list operates is also explained fully to every applicant.
Do I qualify for Housing?
If you are in need of housing and are unable to provide it from your own resources you may apply for local authority housing. In assessing your application the local authority take into account factors such as household size, household income, present accommodation (if any), the condition of that accommodation and any special circumstances including age, disability, medical circumstances etc.
What happens if I Qualify?
You are placed on the Council’s waiting list and, as dwellings become available to the Council they are allocated to the applicants in order of priority taking circumstances into account. The number of casual vacancies allocated each year varies but is normally between 50 – 60. Dwellings are allocated to suit household size. This is to ensure the best possible use of the available dwellings.
What if I don’t Qualify?
The Council will inform you and explain the reasons for their decision. They can provide information and offer advice on other housing options available e.g. Shared Ownership, Affordable Housing etc.
What happens if I am Homeless?
If you are homeless you register with the Homeless Unit, Clare County Council. (065) 6828040.
How long will it take before I get offered a House?
Unfortunately, this cannot be determined. However, the average length of time is usually between 3 to 5 years.
What happens if Ennis Town Council offer me a Dwelling I don’t want?
If the Council offers you a dwelling and you refuse the offer, Ennis Town Council will notify the Health Executive. This is particularly relevant where applicants are in receipt of rent allowance; two reasonable offers will result in discontinuance of rent allowance.
