Ennis Town Council

Christmas pedestrianisation & Christmas lights

Ennis Town Council and Ennis Chamber have worked together to promote Ennis as a shopping venue this Christmas. Both the Council and the Chamber are calling for local businesses to be supported this Christmas.

Abbey Street, O'Connell Square and O'Connell Street will be pedestrianised on Saturday 5th, 12th, and 19th December, Sunday 20th December and on Christmas Eve 24th December.  Pedestrianisation of these streets has proven popular among shoppers on previous occasions.  Car parking will be available in close proximity to the pedestrianised streets and additional parking will be available in the Holy Family School and Ennis National School. The streets will be pedestrianised from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on these dates.

The Christmas lighting scheme in Ennis will be officially switched on by the Mayor of Ennis, Mr. Frankie Neylon at a ceremony to be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday 4th December 2009 at the Christmas Tree in the Market.  The pupils from the Ennis National School will provide seasonal entertainment at this ceremony.

The Christmas lighting in Ennis creates a festive atmosphere in the streets.   Each street has its own distinctive style of lighting and variety of lighting features.  Eddie Power said "The Christmas lighting scheme enhances the attractiveness of Ennis as a place to shop.   The lighting on the Christmas Tree comprises of low energy bulbs and is a continuation of the Councils investment in modern LED bulbs which were provided as part of a new lighting scheme in Parnell Street in 2008.  The Parnell Street car park has been refurbished and available to shoppers.  New lighting features have been prvoided this year which will complement the Christmas lights provided in Parnell Street and Woodquay car parks.   New lighting has also been provided in O'Connell Square. As part of the promotion of the Christmas shopping in Ennis the Christmas lights will operate from 3:00 p.m. each day."
